he beat it.[/quote] Wrong choice of words. He got away w/it because nobody presented a case to the BAA officials to point out his cheating ways (change of clothes). At this point, his antics at Boston are simply part of the larger picture of his chicanery documented nicely on the SOKLR blog. |

I have yet to read a summary of this thread that hasn't been entertaining... http://www.writingaboutrunning.com/2011/01/outing-of-kip-litton.html |

Two corrections to the link: Wayne Kursh didn't get Kip to take down his website - I did. And, although there was a link between the server for races listed toward the end, that had no bearing on learning the truth about the W WY Marathon. I'm the one who discovered there was no W WY Marathon. That was simple detective work: write to the local paper and ask about the alleged Marathon. The response - they didn't know anything about it. Bingo! The 'hows' and 'whys' of the weird tale may never become clear. Coming clean is in his best interest but this is not a man capable of the truth...as has been proven time & again. A story is on the way...patience, grasshoppers. |

To be fair, most of us have been patient. It has been six months since this thread was started.

Hmm and you're different in this respect how exactly? |

Ok, no more Kip talk here. Can I change the subject? Just went to the dentist in Michigan last week, but it was the weirdest thing. The dentist started out in a white lab coat, but finished the appointment in a blue one. He only cleaned every fourth tooth, but charged me for cleaning all of them. He said I had a problem with my "crownsizers". When I said he just made that up he insisted he finished near the top of his class in crownsizer treatment. Sorry to get off topic. |

Kip Litton is probably a nice guy and people do make mistakes. Mistakes shouldnt screw someone for life IMO. I'm sure Kip is extremely embarrassed about it, im hoping he wont do it again. some of the evidence is extremely convincing, like with the change of clothes, etc. What he did and the whole investigation throughout letsrun is fascinating and speaks for itself. When there is excessive pressure and opportunity to cross the line/cheat, even GOOD people can and will cross that line. I knew a teammate in college who I know lied about his road race PRs. He is a GOOD guy I just think if anything he is guilty of insecurity/low self confidence. there was probably a similar thing with kip going on - Kip is pretty talented considering he is almost 50yrs old. he is/was probably capable of legit sub3hrs marathon, but once he realized that breaking 3hrs in multiple marathons per season was going to be much more difficult, I think he didnt want to let down his friends and family so he was trapped. Because he was trapped he resorted to doing this and once he got started doing it, the snowball got out of control. |

Don't know him so can't comment on him personally but inventing completely fictional races goes a bit beyond a "mistake" even if you overlook the continual course cutting, change of outfits and so on. If people don't strongly express their disapproval, what sanction is there against anyone doing it. As for the whiney "Why does it matter? Get a life" people, I think they are just as bad. Also get a grip, nobody is advocating any kind of other punishment here. |

seems maybe the snowball just got out of control and then when he realized he was going to have trouble with race directors (after some DQs), he figured he might give the making up races thing a try. it worked at west wyoming for some months until letsrun detectives did some more digging - and the bombshell finding being that these races like WestWyoming and SandySprings and some OrlandoFL 5k were all being hosted on the same website host/IP address of his dentist URL combined with that no one in those areas has heard of them |
