I made it through 7 or 8 pages of this thread, and then scanned the last 2 pages. Don't have time to read it all. What's the current theory on how Kip does it? My take is that he disguises himself as a spectator and hides the chip inside a thin sock so no one suspects he's crossing the chip mats as a cheater. He might even cross the chip mats backwards as if going to meet someone by crossing the mat diagonally backwards up the route. The chip would still register that direction. Or maybe chasing something he "accidentally" drops near the chip mat (a ball? a program? a newspaper?). Any reason to cross the chip mat in any direction without looking suspicious. And at the start, he starts his stop watch as he crosses the starting line and then knows what splits he needs to hit and bikes/rides ahead to the next point. If he crossed chip mats at the edge backwards looking like a by-stander, no photographer would take his picture unless he accidentally ended up in the background of a photo. Sorry if someone else already suggested this, but I haven't read the entire thread. |

http://kiplitton.blogspot.com/2011/01/update-discussion-on-history.html[/quote] Thanks. I read the informative blog post. Interesting. But how did Litton get chip-timed on splits in some of his races? By bike? Having a double run for him? |

There was a 5k/10k in Clarkston this morning. Maybe the Kipster won? Was Clakrston Kent there? |

So far as I know, he's still recovering from knee surgery. To those curious about an impending story: Patience, Grasshopper. |

Yes - patience is necessary. I think it will be an excellent article. |
