 I think most are interested in the "how" he allegedly cheated and next importantly the "why." One observation that I'm not sure impacted anything was that he was in the snickers marathon squad. I was picked for that at one time. You are eligible for some small monetary bonuses if you are mentioned + the fact that you are part of the team - in articles and tv etc. The bonus money wouldnt be enough to compensate for travelling costs to some of these races. Just a thought. |

Well now, that explains a few things as to why he was always mentioned as part of the Snickers Marathon Team when I saw some local articles on him. He was also mentioned as winning the masters division in the 2008 Bayshore marathon, which he did not. |

When I was on the 'team' I recall you would get approx $75 if mentioned in a local newspaper article, then more if it was a national paper like NY Times. Possibly $250 or thereabouts if you made it on a decent market TV news program - - - the point is the more the exposure, the higher the prize. If you were on 60 Minutes in a video, that be be the ultimate bonus, for example. You didnt get anything for mention in your local track club newsletter or webpage. Also you had to mention you were part of the team in the article and for pictures or video, be wearing some snickers clothing. |

My goal is much simpler - put an end to the deceit. The 'how' might come out in time from him but the 'why', never. The 'why' is always distilled to - 'I thought I could get away with it.' Cheaters are rarely ever moved to confess the 'why'. Why explain 'why' when they've been caught? Getting caught is embarrassement enough. |

Again, attack me if you like but the "how" is really not that complicated. Over analysis can lead to paralysis. If he had an accomplice, then he did. There's no big mystery or trick there. If he bailed and hid at a certain point, changed his outfit and then jumped in, then he did. Not being rude or sarcastic, but it was either help in a vehicle or on foot at certain points of whatever races he actually was disqualified from (3 marathons to date?). Look at the chart on one of the marathons. His splits are simply unexplainable and all over the charts. Possible, sure. Probable, no. Couple that with "coincidentally" not showing up in photos or video at certain points and what is a reasonable thinking person going to believe? Most people are bummed out if they aren't in the photos at 1/2 way, or wherever they are taking them on the course. Was he? I am fairly confident in saying that there were no helicopters involved:) Sorry, but I am more interested in the why which I know puts me in the minority. Anybody could cheat and get away with it for awhile. What made him alledgedly do it over and over, even after being caught? Timing is everything, but eventually it runs out. |

While I think it's great that all you guys keep digging up evidence of what Litton has been up to, it seems like there is really only one way to stop him from cheating. Even if you find more irregularities, I doubt any race director is going to bother to DQ a guy a year after the fact, and even if they do this guy has no sense of shame. 1. Kip is still doing his 50 sub 3 hour marathons in 50 states. 2. From his athlinks, you can figure out which states he has NOT hit yet. No idea whether he's admitting that the ones where he got DQed don't count, so probably don't factor those into the potential targets list. 3. From this list, there will only be a handful of races coming up at any one time. Each week, post any potential marathons on letsrun. 4. Letsrunners from the area can notify race directors to be on the lookout, or follow Kip on a bike, or just run with him if they're already entered and are willing to do so. That should stop him. If he's kept honest by having someone watch him in the race, he'll have to either drop out or run at his true 3:05-3:10 (just a guess) ability. Then hopefully this whole 50 sub 3s stunt will go belly up and he can move on to a different scam. |

If he is still going for sub-3 in every state then there are a few obvious races that he'll probably do. Any flatlander that needs a fast Colorado will probably go with the Colorado Marathon in Fort Collins in May. ADT on Labor Day is another possibility, but less likely. Connecticut will definitely be Hartford. He got DQ'd from Delaware, so is only other choice is Rehoboth Beach. Kentucky will most likely be KDF Marathon. I really question his 2:56 in WY. Last I checked Jackson Hole was at 6000ft. Fortunately for Kip that race was a one time deal, and nobody called him out for course cutting. Your only shot at a sub-3 in WY otherwise is Casper. There are only 2 in WV, 3 in ND, 3 in AL, and 3 in NH. All states that he needs. I thought that maybe he'd only do races with chips so he can start late and sneak off course until I ran First Light over the weekend. No chips, no checkpoints, nothing! It would take zero effort to cheat on that race. |

Trust me. A lot of RD's already know about him and the allegations. Runners talk, and RD's talk.....and most RD's are runners:) As far as the why, I believe 99% of it is ego, pure and simple. To be praised by others and feel good about it. The prize money has been small, but it's not the amount, it's the feeling of SAYING I won x amount at this race for being the FIRST place in the Master's Division. Just saying "I won $" must really stroke the ego. Yes, I am only guessing. But my thing is after getting caught 3 times, what kept him going? I am surprised that a lot of you believe you will be seeing him at races in the near future. Sorry, but I will believe it when I see it. The LION is out of the bag and the word has spread. The anonymity is over. Time for a reality run Teflon Litton. |

A little digging on line makes me think Kurt and Kip are certainly related. More digging shows a picture....they look related but not a twin. Still posible. I always thought Kips picture from the BAA 5k looked different from some of the other races. |

Don't forget that Litton is always covering the majority of his face by wearing huge shades, hat, etc. etc. That could be in line with the crazy twin theory. |
