Never understood why races would base PLACE on chip time instead of gun time.

He may be too embarrassed and angry and has become paralyzed to do anything about his piece as an earlier poster suggested. In the meantime, it is good to know that he is annoyed like the rest of us.

Someone type up a brief summary of Kip's cheating and I'll send it, along with a link to this thread, to all of his facebook friends.

Some of his facebook friends already know about it. But they probably dont know if its true or not because they dont know anything about running.

And someone wrote on the facebook wall of kip's dental office to ask what his next marathon is but no one has responded

Definitely don't do this. Stuff like this is the reason the other threads got deleted.

Agreed, people are doing a great job trying to figure out the layers of deceit. Let's keep it at that, no need to try to punish (outside or DQ from races) or humiliate.

Amen, exactly. Lets just keep to the research and sleuthing. Truth will find light on its own.

No race should award prize money based on chip time. But do you really want the contenders for the 70-74 age group awards starting up front because they know gun time is what matters?

But perhaps this whole affair will cause races to stop automatically accepting chip times at face value. There's nothing wrong with requiring people with huge chip time discrepancies and/or missing split times to explain themselves.

And certainly, someone who has a long history of DQs and other suspicious results has relinquished his right to the benefit of the doubt.

He doesn't "cut corners" though. So I think kipping should be defined as large scale cheating and (or only) grossly misrepresenting oneself or one's abilities.

Accidentally saying you think you ran the mile in about 4 minutes in gym is not kipping.

Pushing a sports competitor when the ref isn't looking is not kipping.

Using a computer program to get a high chess/checkers/whatever rating is an example of kipping.

Saying you not only ran a 10 minute 2 mile run in boot camp but immediately were sent to the special ops unit etc is kipping.

Winning the west wyoming marathon, well you get the idea.

I believe these are NEW PHOTOS of another Kip Litton staggering finish. This time from the 2010 Go! St. Louis Marathon, which Kip "ran" with a gun time of 2:59:31. This time it appears he stayed incognito all the way to the end with no visible bib for this hunched over finish. He has no pictures credited to him for the race.

It makes sense because it prevents competitive 60 and 70 year olds from lining up at the front of the pack next to competitive 20 and 30 year olds who are going to be going out at 5 minute miles. It helps avoid what could be a dangerous situation as the slower and aging weekend warriors get overrun by a faster pack.

I've seen some asphalt eating resulting from some young ambitious teens lining up at the front of races, and I hope to never see the same from a 65 year old who could end his/her racing with a nasty fall. (Not to mention me having to hurdle the casualty, shaving seconds off my race time).

Unfortunately, the Kip's of the world are making this argument more and more difficult to defend.

Actually there is this kid who used to run for Liberty, is now in the army, and while not immediately sent to Special Ops, he did go to Special Forces Selection shortly (within a couple months after AIT) and was selected to go to Special Forces Medic training...although, he may not have run under 10 in bootcamp, even though his PR is sub 9:30...

Sorry, back on topic!!
