Cool beans! One confirmed 'monitor' for The Kip! |

What was the race director's thoughts/feedback on the matter? |

To those running cowtown to monitor kip, how do you expect to find him at the starting line as he may have a great disguise on and bundles of clothes? Look for his face since you likely won't be able to see a bib number? |

I'll find his race# before and look for him and be on the lookout for anyone passing me late in the race. I'm going to be running between 3:05 and 3:10 so if he does the usual start late deal he'll be passing me sometime after halfway (when unless you're really slowing down nobody normally passes you). |
Just Wow |

Have you been reading this thread? You have about a 1% chance of seeing him with this plan. He will not be passing you late, he comes in close to the end and runs slow to the finish. MAYBE you would see him hop in 800m from the finish and run by him while he fake stretches or something. Someone needs to hang out after the start and spot him waddling across the line near the back of the pack and then tail him. |

agreed. if the usual kip tactics are employed, it's very unlikely you'll ever see him passing you. anyone who chooses to follow him cant really race. instead, plan to do your Sunday long run in Fortworth, TX and find him at the starting line (not an easy task as his bib and face may be covered) but if you find him, watch him like a hawk the whole time. course map makes it look like there are easy places to cross over and skip a bit http://www.cowtownmarathon.org/Upload/documents/alf_Ultra_Map_10_21.pdf also, it appears the 2011 course has changed because the elevation profile is different-> http://www.cowtownmarathon.org/Upload/documents/MARATHON%20ELEVATION.pdf |

someone bring a bicycle down there and ride along if possible. im not sure where the checkpoints are for this race. looks like BrightRoom/RunPics race photographers will be there |

last year sub 3hrs would put one in the top 15 finishers. also last year it appears there were checkpoints at 10K, 12k, 13.1M, 30K |

I'd imagine by early next week I'll have something in place of a formal/official manner. Anybody wanting to take part as a 'monitor' should be able to - plus Dr Litton welcomes it. |

Can somebody in the mental health field speculate on why Kip L would be motivated to cheat in such a blatant fashion? |

From bill khan, author of the original article...this is what he posted in the comments section of that article on feb2nd: "I'm not going to publish anything on the allegations about Kip Litton cheating. It's a very tricky subject to write about without creating potential problems. I will say that I do regret writing this piece. When I wrote it, I did not know about the circumstances surrounding these results. I saw the times and was impressed that any marathoner could nail all of his or her times within about a five-minute window without having one bad day in there, as happens to ALL marathoners. Perhaps there's a reason for such remarkable consistency ... and it's not remarkable at all." |

Kip's probably been training out of his mind so he run one legit sub-3 and make us all look like fools. It'll make for a great montage when the Kip Litton Movie gets made. They can play "Back in Black" over shots of him pounding the pavement in his trademark racing outfit. |

A sub 3:00 still wouldn't wash away all the questions about his cheating, which he obviously did. It would just prove that he really is a sub 3:00 marathoner. I think you're right that he's probably training like crazy, and is going to red-line the race to squeeze every second out of himself that he can. Can't wait to see the finish line photos - something tells me they won't look like the ones from his previous races. |

he did the Charlotte one in December so doesnt seem like he's going to have much time to prepare for this one http://blog.mlive.com/flintjournal/runners/2010/04/042510-kip-litton/1573/comments-newest.html |

You nailed it...this guy has erected a house of cards equivalent to the Taj Mahal, and now he is trying to figure out how in the hell he is going to keep this thing from crumbling now that so many people are on to his antics. Didn't he just do a 1:27 legitimate half back in December? Based on most estimates, that's not even a sub-3 marathon. This guy is going to stand on the throttle as long as he can, and then I predict he'll blow up around mile 19.5. I have this image in my mind of the scene in Star Wars where the guy is yelling "stay on target...stay on target" and then the spaceship just blows to pieces. That's going to be your boy Kip in a couple of weeks. |

Heck...if he is inviting runners to monitor his performance, it should be relatively easy to coordinate. Just agree on a location to meet before the race, and everyone can take off together. This will avoid having to spot him in a sea of thousands. |

This will avoid having to spot him in a sea of thousands.[/quote] Update: talked w/Cowtown officials today - they're going to rely on their own security system to monitor the progress of all runners. There was no offer of a following cyclist for Dr Litton. That's fine. I'm awaiting the positions of the split mats and I'm going to ask Dr Litton to use his now-standard tactic of starting way-the-heck after the gun - which will allow anybody that wants to run w/him - an easier way to find him. This doesn't mean he'll delay his start - but since I'm being fair w/him, hopefully he'll reciprocate. Plus, it's not like all would be lost if he eluded those he's welcomed to run w/him. The runners would be disappointed - but I wouldn't be. One more log on the fire. |

are the mats going to be at 10K, 12k, 13.1M, 30K like last year? |
