Read the one comment posted for the Wyoming marathon: "Small race, with only a couple dozen runners. Bring your own gels; only water is available on course. Out-and-back route. No spectators to speak of. Sounds like a downer, but the view and the town are so worth it! Cross Wyoming off of your list and visit one of the most beautiful towns in the US at the same time." Submitted by G.S. from Nebraska, which matches to one runner: Greg Sanchez (M54) 4:39:26 21 14 / 2 M50-59 Lincoln, NE, USA Coming from a salty 54 year old, the review creates the impression that Greg is an experienced marathoner and probably a 50 stater. But type in his name at Marathon Guide and this is his only race! Our expert marathoner comes out of no where to join Kip for the 29 person race, and then vanishes along with all traces of the race. All links to it are dead. Another Litton oddity that leaves you wondering if he did fake the whole race. I can't imagine Marathon Guide putting out too much effort to fact check a 29 person race, and it may be as simple as submitting some bogus results to Marathon Guide to turn them into an unwitting accomplice. |

Also notice that she is an attorney (she lists her employer and occupation publicly on facebook), so it would be easy to use her to draft C&D letters to letsrun or other sites. No lawyer costs, threads/pages come down, etc. A friend of mine had a father at one of the big corporate firms in our city and used to use him all the times to send threatening letters on the firm's letterhead anytime he felt wronged or wanted something done. When it doesn't cost you anything, it's easily abused. |

I just looked up every finisher on marathonguide (didn't take long for a race with only 29 finishers). Not one of them has ever run a marathon other than West Wyoming! There are a few that *might* be real: Theresa Walker, Michael Smith, Susan Wells, Ian Davis, James Larsen - for each of these there's another person that could possibly be the same but with a different hometown, 1-year age difference, etc. and they don't all have very consistent times - Susan Wells, for instance, ran a 3:27 in Top of Utah but a 4:59 in West Wyoming?? Then I compared every single name against the 50 state marathon club list (http://50statesmarathonclub.com/cgi-bin/main.cgi?form=1) and the Marathon Maniacs list (http://www.marathonmaniacsdb.com/Maniacs/Scorecard.asp) NOT ONE OF THEM IS IN EITHER GROUP! Wyoming only has 3 marathons so you'd expect to see a LOT of 50-staters at any marathon there. Especially during 4th of July weekend when your only other options are Leadville, CO or Portland, OR. I'm not ready to say this wasn't a real marathon...but it's very suspicious... |

There is a 0.0% chance that anyone on this thread is at risk for libel. The burden of proof would be on Kip to prove that libel occurred, which is no easy task by itself. Secondly, a libel lawsuit would bring into question every allegation that has come up so far, it would only dig him in a deeper hole. It's not gonna happen. |

No chance. My third point about libel is that he would also have to pierce the anonymous internet veil. Good luck finding a court that will do that. |

To run with him you have to find him among thousands at the start. Someone suggested that he be asked to wear a GPS. He would probably refuse that - on the grounds that a failure to finish sub-3 would be automatically taken as evidence of previous cheating, when in reality he might run sub-3 due to a bad day or injury etc. If the RDs really want to catch course cutters, isn't the solution just to put more mats on the course? Put out more mats and require that a runner's chip register at ALL mats. This is how the NYCM catches 50 or so course cutters each year. |

Holy crap!!!! I did too - - NONE of them has any record of any marathon finishes from 2006 onward. This is like a spooky mystery or a Chris Angel act - how can someone make a marathon disappear???!!!!!! Answer - if maybe it never happened. This has the potential to be something beyond extraordinary if its true Notice the finisher names (see below) - they are all very vanilla names like if one had to, hypothetically speaking, make up 29 names: Also Jackson Hole is not a speck of a town. One would surmise maybe more than 29 people might run a race there. There is no history of this race ever before that I could google. My questions: has anyone asked marathon guide about this yet? ANd since there were no t-shirts ever made for this event, shouldnt letsrun.com spring for official West Wyoming Marthon gear for all of us - and perhaps host the first official letsrun.com marathon there. The guy who got 2nd place, Roberto Vasquez appears to be a real runner. Surely someone here either directly or indirectly knows the guy (or anyone else on the list for that matter) and can confirm that this was a real marathon. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kjdrill/4459502354/ |

That's Roberto VaZquez with a Z who is 26 yrs old and hails from Long Beach (I know near LA). The West Wyoming fininsher is spelled Vasquez and is listed as 25 and from LA itself. Still weird.... Funny that the pic you posted said he ran 2:47, when in fact he ran 2:55 (the irony of that is not lost) |

218 finishers in the Jackson Hole 1/2M on June 26, 2010, 2 weeks before the WWM (can we call it that now?) took place. No overlap of finishers that I could tell. A nice variety of names.
